Film balers: choosing for your waste volumes and workflow

Plastic packaging film is light but bulky. Retail, logistics and manufacturing businesses may generate it continually, quickly filling bags, containers or storage areas. A film baler compresses this waste into compact bales for separate handling from cardboard and other materials.

STRAPAS supplies ORWAK waste balers and helps select a solution based on actual film volumes, available space and workflow.

How does a film baler work?

Film is loaded into the chamber and compressed by the press plate. The process repeats until the required bale size is reached. The bale is then tied with strapping or wire and removed for storage or collection.

Baling film separately from cardboard keeps streams cleaner and easier to pass on for further processing.

When is a film baler useful?

Consider a baler when:

  • stretch or other packaging film quickly fills waste bags;
  • staff continually carry bulky but lightweight film;
  • film occupies warehouse or back-room space;
  • cardboard and plastic film arise at the same site;
  • you want tidier storage until collection.

Single-chamber or dual-chamber baler?

If film is the main waste type, a single-chamber baler suited to soft plastic may work. Where cardboard and film arise continuously together, a multi-chamber solution may be practical.

For example, ORWAK MULTI 5070 allows two materials to be baled separately at one workstation. For more intensive use, consider the reinforced ORWAK MULTI 5070-HDC.

What should you assess before choosing a model?

Before requesting a quotation, establish:

  • weekly or monthly film volumes;
  • whether cardboard will also be baled;
  • space available for equipment;
  • power supply at the intended location;
  • bale weight convenient for staff and the contractor;
  • current collection frequency.

These details quickly rule out undersized or oversized models.

Rental or purchase?

If requirements are uncertain or a lower initial investment matters, consider waste baler rental. For stable volumes and long-term use, compare purchase options.
